Il Jong, a prosperous baker who built a real corporation, is married, with 2 daughters, but he needs a heir to take over his bread company when he retires. As his wife, In Suk, cannot conceive a son, Il Jong then follows the advice of his mother by seeing his servant, Mi Seon. From their union will be born, Tak Ku, a kid with absolute sense of smell, who can predict the weather just by smelling the air. But before she even give birth, out of jealousy, In Suk kicks Mi Seon out of the house and asks Seung Jae, the odd job man of the family to get rid of her. In Suk, seeing she cannot have a son, starts seeing Seung Jae, and approximately around the same time as Mi Seon, gives birth to a son, Ma Jun, who Il Jong believes to be his legitimate son. Twelve years later, Il Jong’s mother finds out that Ma Jun is not her grandson…

This is how starts the story of Kim Tak Ku, a true quest, intense story from the very start. The story is solid, the cast is excellent. It’s not so much about romance but secrets, betrayal, conspiracy, vengeance and overcoming obstacles against all odds… The symbolic of bread is also quite interesting in this drama. I love Ma Jun’s mother performance and Kim Tak Ku is a great character. Ma Jun’s character is very childish and annoying. He’s the character I like the least, young or grown up. Great acting from all actors, except for Yu Jin who is a bit weak in some scenes…
This drama became national success with over 50% ratings.
