When I saw the trailer and all the buzz around this, I was expecting a lot but I was a little disappointed. I love historical dramas but this one is not among the best. There are many issues in this drama. First, the story idea is not bad but I must say it is so boring I had a very hard time finishing this. I skipped many scenes that are redundant. This drama could have easily been done in 16 episodes or so. Second, there are many technical mistakes (misplaced props and accessories from one sequence to the other, bad inter-cuts and so on and so forth). Too many for my taste. It looks like they were REALLY pressed by time. When you have the time to notice all this, that means your attention is not where it should be… Third, the main romance was not that interesting weirdly enough. Almost no skin ship. I found out later on it’s because Kim Hee Seon is married. Is that a good reason? I don’t think an actor/actress can be the main love interest and have no physical interaction of any kind with her partner and make it believable (unless the story is specifically written like that, which is not the case here). Also, I found Yi Min Ho‘s performance not that good except for fight scenes. He was really supported by Kim Hee Seon. I think the show was supported by Yi Min Ho‘s strong fan base but for me, Yi Min Ho still needs to improve his acting skills if he wants to get more interesting roles. I find him a little short on that. Good looks are not all. He was better in City Hunter. This was for the negative. The positive: The special effects are good, the fight scenes too, Kim Hee Seon brings in a lot of energy. I didn’t know her. I like her a lot, she is very funny. I found the King’s love story interesting, the way they evolve and slowly learn to know each other. Another good point, I liked the animated parts. We don’t get to see this kind of stuff often. Overall, it’s an average drama, very much under what can be done.
